Chennai’s Top order struggles to find form
Mumbai made their 5th entry in IPL final by defeating Chennai Super Kings in a MI vs CSK clash in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. After winning the toss Mumbai decides to bat first and restricted Chennai to 131 in the first qualifier match of IPL 2019. Chennai had a poor start as they lost 3 wickets in powerplay managing only 32 runs. Murli Vijay and Ambati Raydu steadied the ship before Vijay got out to a bad shot.
Dhoni helps CSK to reach a respectable total in MI vs CSK clash
Like always Top order failed for CSK and Captain Dhoni took charge. The pitch was slow and turning which even “Thala” couldn’t exploit. MS Dhoni scored 37 of 29 balls with 3 gigantic sixes, 2 of them coming on the consecutive balls of Lasith Malinga. Mumbai is a good bowling unit and they proved it by containing CSK and their home ground.
Mumbai Indians are riding high on their Bowler’s success
Rahul Chahar was again pick of the bowlers who finished with an impressive figure of 4-0-14-2. Krunal Pandya and Hardik Pandya were economical and spent only 34 runs in 6 over amongst them. Bumrah bowled a brilliant last over where he gave only 9 runs. MS Dhoni had a strike rate of more than 350 in last over, coming into the match. And Bumrah contained him with some perfect Yorkers and brilliant slower balls.
Ishan Kishan makes good use of chance
MI started the chase badly and lost their openers by the time score reached 21. SuryaKumar Yadav took the responsibility and took the match deep with Ishan Kishan. The wicket-keeper batsman played according to pitch and condition and forged an 80-run partnership with Yadav. Spinners of CSK bowled well but 131was never going to be enough for a strong batting line-up of Mumbai Indians.
MI has always been dominant on strong teams
This is the 3rd win for Mumbai Indians this year and 4 consecutive wins (most) against MS Dhoni’s team. Chennai has lost only 3 matches in their last 21 matches at their home ground and all of them came against Mumbai. As per numbers CSK, MI and KKR are the most successful franchise in IPL. Mumbai has a very good record against these two strong teams.

Vizag match will decide the fate of Chennai
Mumbai will fly to Hyderabad to play finals. Chennai will have to visit Vizag to play the winner of Eliminator in Qualifier 2. Chennai has reached final 7 times and won 3 of them. Mumbai have played 4 finals and won 3 of them in 2013, 2015, and 2017. Odds are favoring Mumbai as they conquer the IPL trophy every second year since 2013.
