Arrest of Hafiz Saeed is an indirect diplomatic win for India

Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed has been arrested in Lahore by the counter-terrorism department of Punjab Police. Hafiz Saeed, Chief of Jamat ud Dawa (JuD) was arrested when he was going to Gujranwala. The mastermind behind 26/11 has been sent on judicial remand.  As per the sources, he will challenge the case in court.

This is some sort of victory for India as the country has been advocating for his arrest on the International front for years.

 The arrest comes a day after Pakistan opened its air space for Indian flights. Also, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan is scheduled to visit the United States of America to repair the relationship.

Government of Pakistan has been in pressure to take action against the terrorists and terror outfits operating from Pakistan by the Financial Action task Force (FAFT).  FAFT earlier had put Pakistan in grey list of countries over terrorism funding. This arrest could be the result of pressure build by FAFT.

The terrorist name is registered in 23 terror-related cases

Hafiz Saeed’s name is registered in 23 terror-related cases in Pakistan. He was earlier booked for the terror funding but later got bail in absence of concrete evidence.

It is said that Hafiz Saeed and his accomplices collects funds and finance Lashkar-e-Taiba. The dangerous Lashkar-e- Taiba terrorist organization has carried out many terror- attacks including the Mumbai attack in 2008. More than 165 people died in the Mumbai attack when 10 young Pakistani gunmen open-fired at the multiple locations.

United Nations has designated Hafiz Saeed as the Global terrorist who founded the Lashkar-e-Taiba. The United States has declared $10 million bounty for the evidence which could lead to his conviction.
