Juvenile Justice Bill passed by Rajya Sabha

With an overwhelming majority from the members of the House, Rajya Sabha finally passed the long awaited Juvenile Justice Bill. The Bill proposes to accused, who are 16 year of age as an adult in the court of law.

The bill was first introduced by Maneka Gandhi (women and child development minister) in August 2014 and bill had already passed in Lok Sabha. Maneka Gandhi is very happy and thanked everyone for supporting the bill.

CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said that ” Today you are demanding the juvenile age to be reduced from 18 to 16 what if tomorrow a 15 year old commits as horrendous crime.”

He also requested to send the bill to a parliament for further examination.
