Understanding the importance of Happiness Curriculum
In the 21st century, the biggest setback observed in young generation is their emotional health. Indian education system follows a curriculum, where children learn and grow. But for the positive growth and stress-free learning of the child, happiness curriculum has become a necessity. Why is Happiness Curriculum so important? Why it should be introduced in every school.
Happiness Curriculum: From where the idea originated?
Education Minister Manish Sisodia visited Harvard University and got to know about the “Happiness Curriculum” followed there. Inspired by the Idea, Delhi Government launched “happiness curriculum” on 2nd July 2018. Delhi government is planning to launch the curriculum in around 1000 schools of Delhi aiming 8 lakh students. It is an initiative that will help students to give their 100% in the learning environment that they already have.
Dalai Lama graced the event and said, “only India has the ability to combine modern education with ancient knowledge which is necessary for the fulfillment of human emotions.” He said such a combination will pave way for physical and mental well-being, solving troubles caused due to negative and destructive emotions like anger, hatred, and jealousy.
Syllabus of Happiness Curriculum
The ‘Happiness Curriculum’ including meditation, value education, and mental exercises, was designed and prepared by a team of 40 Delhi government teachers, educators and volunteers over a period of six months.
The curriculum aims at the physical environment. The classes should be colorful with the right amount of light along with Green open lawns to make the environment comfortable for students. Secondly, it focuses on the curriculum, with constructed syllabus aiming to provide opportunities for self-growth and group learning. Thirdly, the faculty, that forms the medium through which the happiness can be communicated by making it comfortable for the children. Fourth and foremost is, providing scholastic and co-scholastic activities providing multiple aspects. And lastly, treating the child as a distinct personality and nurturing them with their own talents.
Being one of the fast-growing economies the happiness index lies very low in India. Initiatives like these are very important for the real growth and development.
