Dhanteras is the first important day of the five day long festivity of the festival of light Diwali. It is also called Dhantrayodashi or Dhanvantari Trayodashi.


‘Dhan’ stands for wealth and ‘teras’ refers to the 13th day or the Krishna Paksha of the Hindu month of Ashwin.


Goddess Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth and money and is worshipped on this day for obtaining prosperity, financial wellness and wealth.


Importance of Dhanteras


The festival is highly important for the business community owing to the huge purchase of valuable and precious metals.  Besides goddess Lakshmi, god Kubera is also worshipped on this day. According to Hindu mythology, Kubera is the god of wealth and assets.
