ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: What to expect from India’s first clash with South Africa

Both teams will look to start look to gain 2 early points

A lot of hope and prayer will be taken into account when India will see its first fight against South Africa on 5th May 2019 at Southampton. India will go in the World Cup with utmost confidence. They are considered as the joint front-runner for the World Cup along with England.  South Africa will enter the match with 2 consecutive losses. They lost to Bangladesh and England in their previous league matches.

South Africa has a good record against India

The overall record gives South Africa an upper hand.  Both teams have played 77 matches together. India has won 29 and South Africa has been able to win 45 of it. 3 matches were either No-result or tied.

Last time they clashed!

India defeated South Africa at their home by crushing them 5-1 in a 6 match series. The biggest strength of Proteas will be their fast bowling. They have Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Dale Steyn and Chris Morris as fast-bowlers and the in-form Imran Tahir will spin the ball. Batting is decent enough with experienced, Hashim Amla, Quinton de Cock, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Rassie van der Dussen and JP Duminy and Captain Faf du Plessis. The lower middle will be a concern for the team.

India’s best pace-attack till now in World Cup

Indian team is going with their one of the best bowling unit in the World Cup. Kohli’s team has World number 1 bowler Jasprit Bumrah who can dismantle any batting unit. Bhuvneshwar and Shami will provide support to Bumrah and “Kulcha” will take care of the Spin Bowling. The destructive combo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal will be the key for India in middle overs.

Indian batting is one of the best in the tournament. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Vijay Shankar, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya has been in good form in IPL. Pandya had the second best strike-rate in IPL after Andre Russell. Shikhar Dhawan was the fourth most run-getter in IPL 2019 for DD.

Southhampton is a good pitch for batting. Teams are expected to score more than 300 which could be chased easily. We saw 735 runs scored in a recent series between England and Pakistan. The captain would like to bowl first as they would want to know the target on a batting friendly wicket.
