ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: West Indies team analysis and chances

West Indies has the firepower to demolish any bowling unit

West Indies is the most unpredictable team in limited overs cricket across the world. From number 1 batsmen to number 10, you never know who will hit 20 runs in an over to win the match for them. Even their bowlers have the capability to hit 3 to 4 sixes in an over.  West Indies has the firepower to demolish any bowling unit.

Had there not been any problem in their governing body of cricket, the Windies team would have done far better what they are doing now. They are the only team to win two T20 world cup. They defeated Sri Lanka at their home venue in 2012 and England in India by 4 wickets. We have seen how devastating Andre Russell, Chris Gayle can be? Andre Russell who bombed IPL with gigantic sixes will be full of confidence and ready to go roaring.

Bravo in team despite retirement

Dwane Bravo and Kieron Pollard have been named in the list of reserved player for World Cup. Bravos’s name came as a surprise as he retired from International Cricket last year. Pollard had a good outing in IPL

They have enough All- Rounders to provide balance in batting

Windies have Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Andre Russell, Fabian Alley in the batting order. Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran are the two wicket-keeper batsmen who can clear boundaries as well.

The team has lots of all-rounders to provide balance in Jason Holder’s team. The Windies will need its senior players to anchor the innings and not give the wickets cheaply. West Indies team has been the victim of collapse in the past so they need to play the spin well with responsibility.

Bowling unit is their primary weakness

Kemar Roach, Shannon Gabriel, Oshane Thomas, and Sheldon Cottrell will be the pace attack for the team. None of the pacers seems dangerous to bring fear in batsmen. Ashley Nurse and  Fabian Allen will be the two spinners for the team. Sunil Narine exclusion from the team was a little surprise. They lack variations and impact in spinning the ball.

They have the potential but do they have composure?

Windies have the potential to reach Semi-finals but they don’t have enough composure and bowling to pull off. However, we won’t be surprised if they cruise through other teams to reach the final four.
