How to stay fit in your 40s

We all know that being healthy is the key to leading a happy life. The health benefits of staying fit to go beyond just the body. Those who maintain a healthy lifestyle and regularly do physical exercise will vouch for this.

However, if you are among those who have never had a very physically active life or have been too consumed with work or other things to take care of your body, remember that it is not too late! It doesn’t matter what your age is, as long as you decide that staying fit is your goal. Once you do that, nothing can stop you from being the best version of yourself.

We have all heard “stay fit”, “this will keep you fit”, but what is being fit? Is it only about running and exercises?

Being fit means being healthy. Though fitness is used more commonly in the sense of physical fitness, it also means eating the right food, having a balanced diet, having a muscular and lean body, being mentally satisfied and an overall sense of well being. It is also the ability to perform daily activities efficiently and staying away from diseases and falling ill.

How can you be fit in your 40s?

  • Making up your mind

Have a routine. Make sure to find the time to do some sort of exercise every day and then stick with that routine. Motivation is a key factor in staying fit.

  • Maintain a good diet

It is important to make sure that you are eating the right food at the right time. It is important to add more nutritious food such as fruits, milk, eggs, dry fruits etc. to your diet.

  • Going for walks after every meal

Even if it is for 10-15 minutes, makes sure that you do not just go to sleep or get to work after eating. A small walk never hurt anyone.

  • Yoga

The age-old practice is the answer to everything. It not only helps with physical flexibility but also mental peace. Joining a club or classes where they teach yoga is a great way to not only stay fit but also for social interaction.

  • Vitamin supplements

It is important to consult your doctor to make sure that you are not missing out on any important vitamins that your body needs. Vitamin tablets, especially for D3 and B12 can be taken as supplements to fulfil your nutritional needs.

  • Social interaction

Being around people and talking to them is also a very important way to be fit. Social isolation usually leads to a host of problems. Meeting people helps our mental health and the need for belongingness be satisfied.

  • Moderate activity

It is not essential that you do a physically exhaustive workout, but just some mild activities to make sure that you get your daily dose of exercise.
