Here is PM’s take on the much – talked issue, ‘Triple Talaq’

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi breaks his silence on Triple Talaq

Constitutional rights of Muslim women will be protected

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi breaks his silence on Triple Talaq:- While breaking his silence for the first time on the issue of Triple Talaq, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will further ensure that constitutional rights of Muslim women will be protected.

The Prime Minister has also further urged that the issue should not be made into a Hindu-Muslim issue rather people should work towards protection of rights of women. PM Modi was speaking at a public meeting in Uttar Pradesh’s Bundelkhand region.

While launching the election campaign of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in UP, Modi also mentioned that Hindus involved in female infanticide will not be spared on any condition and they can face imprisonment to protect girl child.

This issue should not be politicized: PM

“Is it fair for a man to say the word talaq thrice over the phone and a Muslim woman’s life to be ruined? The government will further ensure that the constitutional rights of Muslim women will be further protected. This issue should not be politicised. There are some political parties which are also indulging in vote bank politics and does not want Muslim women to get their natural rights,” said Modi while addressing a public meeting in Mahoba.

The Prime Minister has also urged intellectuals from the Muslim community to speak on the issue and take part in the debates to make people aware of the social evil.

Modi also pointed out that Hindus involved in female infanticide will not be speared that people involved in the crime will face hail terms. “The government has started a campaign to protect girl child. Anyone killing our daughters will be punished and face imprisonment,” he added.

Interestingly, the use of these social issues like triple talaq and also female infanticide in an election campaign reflects to the change of strategy by PM Modi who had focused on the issue of development in the year 2014 general elections when the NDA had managed to win 73 out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.

During his speech, Modi also attacked the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) government and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for not making any development the priority of the government during their tenure.

The Prime Minister said that the two parties had never acted against each other on the issue of corruption. “Have you ever heard that Samajwadi Party or BSP had ever acted corruption during their tenure in the government? It is only BJP who seems capable of providing a government which will work for the development in Uttar Pradesh,” Modi said.

Political analysts also feel that Prime Minister is taking a calculated risk by his talks about the issue of triple talaq and also talking about the female infanticide. “It is a calculated risk to further reach out to Muslim women by talking about triple talaq. As a prime minister it is Modi’s duty to talk about all the prevalent social evils even if it means annoying the Hindu community or the Muslim community. There is no other bound to be differences because BJP is in power but he is making an effort to make sure that it is not seen as a Hindu-Muslim issue since he is talking about the social evils among the Hindus and Muslims by talking about female infanticide and triple talaq,” said A.K. Verma, a Kanpur-based political analyst.
