Government is expected to soft launch Malware Cleaning System on December 20th
According to reports, government is expected to kick start operations of a long –awaited BotNet and malware cleaning system with soft launch on December 20th.
The programme aims at automatically disinfecting computers and mobiles from viruses and malicious software for free. Ministry of Electronics and IT Additional Secretary Ajay Kumar has tweeted, “Major cyber- security initiative of Digital India. Soft launch of BotNet cleaning centre of India CRET from December 20th.”

Notably, BotNet is a network of malicious software that can steal information, take control of device function and can carry out cyber –attacks such as Disturbed Denial of Service that prevent access of website.
Interestingly, government has earmarked Rs.100 crores for setting up this facility. The project was expected to start in year 2014, but due to some reasons, the launch got delayed.
As per reports, Ajay Kumar has said, “From December 20, Indian CERT will start informing Internet Service Providers about infected systems.”
He further added, “The Internet Service Providers will have to synchronize their system to meet the requirement of botnet and malware cleaning system. ISPs then will be able to alert their customer about infection in their PC or mobile and will recommend them downloading of software from website of BotNet Centre to remove malware.”
Notably, the software will be available for free from the BotNet centre. The system will system will do away need of installing anti- virus software in mobile phones and PC. And according to Ajay Kumar, the system is expected to get fully operational from December 26th.
