Plastic disposal is at the forefront of a lot of environmental issues that we are facing and is only going to keep compounding.

Siyona Vikram, a 10-year-old eco-warrior from Bangalore, had taken it on herself to do her bit in making sure plastic is being disposed of properly.

She is doing a lot of drives to collect plastic toys and other plastic items for proper disposal. In one of her recent drives at an event, she was able to collect over 30 kgs of plastic.

She is also an award-winning podcast host for kids, where she educates them on serious environment-related issues we are facing.

Good News: Village adoption

A Maharashtra-based NGO is in the process of adopting the ancestral village of General Bipin Rawat, India’s first chief of defense staff who was killed in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nādu earlier this month.

The Latur-based Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan Prabodhan Pratishthan (HBPP) is granted permission by the Pauri Garhwal district authorities to carry out development activities in Saina village, which lacks proper road connectivity.

Good News: Sustainable wedding 

Now the cleanest city of India, Indore, has come up with a concept of “zero-waste” wedding function. It is being promoted to ensure minimal waste generation.

During the recent marriage occasion of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) employee Siddharth, all eco-friendly items were used. It included wares used for serving food and even welcome banners for guests.

The IMC, which is promoting the “zero-waste”, wedding concept also gifted a ‘Home Composting Kit’ to the newly married couple. They gave compost manure to guests on the occasion.

Good News: Transgender public employment

Karnataka police have called for applications from the transgender community for the post of special reserve sub-inspector in Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB)

Karnataka is the first ever state in India to reserve jobs in public employment for transgenders, following a landmark direction of the Karnataka high court in July this year.

Tamil Nādu assembly speaker M. Appavu distributed welfare assistance of about ₹41.77 lakh to 101 physically challenged beneficiaries in Tirunelveli on 22nd December.

Good News: Teenagers can register for covid vaccines from January 1

India’s covid-19 vaccination drive seems to gain speed as the government has decided to allow children between 15 and 18 to register for covid-19 vaccines on the Cowin app from January 1. Children can use school id cards for registration.

An additional slot is created on the platform for this purpose. Children will get Baharat biotech’s double dose Covaxin or Zydus Cadila’s three doses ZyKoV-D.

Good News: Anahat Singh becomes first Indian to win junior US open squash meet

Scripting history Anahat Singh a 13-year-old girl from Delhi becomes the first Indian to win the US junior squash open. In the final match, she outplayed Egypt’s Zaida Marei by 11-9, 11-5, 8-11, and 11-5.

She defeated under-15 US National Champion Dixon Hill in the semi-finals. This tournament witnessed the participation of more than 850 squash junior players from more than 40 countries.
