Fake news has also raised the concern of the Supreme Court of India. SC said,” Fake news is easily circulated and anyone can start a news channel on YouTube. These portals are fearlessly publishing rubbish against judges and institutions without being accountable”.

Fake news:

Actor Sidharth Shukla passed away due to a heart attack on 2 September. Shortly after the news broke, a video of a man collapsing while sitting on a flight of stairs was shared by people with a claim that it showed the moment when Shukla suffered a heart attack. 

Fact-checked:

Here’s the truth behind the viral video. This video is from almost 2 weeks old. The man who suffered the heart attack hails from Bengaluru. He got a cardiac attack outside the gym.

Fake news: 

Several BJP members, Sudarshan News, News18, and Zee News claimed Janmashtami celebrations were held in Kashmir for the first time in 32 years under PM Modi.

Fact-checked:

 Shri Krishan Janmashtami has been celebrated in Kashmir since 2004. Therefore, it was not the first time the event took place. 

Fake news: 

On 31 August, Twitter and Facebook were flooded with posts and videos of Republic Tv’s show Puchta Hai Bharat. The show featured various Taliban leaders. 

Fact-checked:

In a segment, the show flashed Haji Yaqoob Qureshi’s picture. He is a BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) leader. However, Alt news reported the matter to Republic Bharat’s staff and they claimed that they aired an apology on 1st September.

Fake news:

Twitteratis were triggered after a Mahayvapoorn Suchna circuited. The post claimed that the Rajasthan government issued a notice providing protection to Mosques and Madrasas. It also defined punishments to miscreants for forbidding the rule. 

Fact-checked:

The truth of the image was debunked by the Rajasthan police itself. Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot also issued an official clarification that the news is fake. And fear-mongers will be punished for defaming the government. 

Fake news:

Cow is the only animal who exhales oxygen, scientists claimed! On September 1, Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, Allahabad High court judge, advised the government to include cow protection as a fundamental right of Hindus. He also observed that “scientists believe that the cow is the only animal that inhales as well as exhales oxygen.”exhales oxygen

Fact checked: 

Well, cows indeed exhale the oxygen but it is also true that all the animals including humans also exhale some amount of oxygen. While talking to India Today, A Delhi University Zoology Professor Soma M. Ghorai, explained the respiratory system in humans. She said that out of 21% oxygen we inhale, our body utilizes only 4-5 %. Rest is released with carbon dioxide and other gases. This phenomenon also works with cows and the rest of the animals. 

Fake news:

A Muslim boy flashing a playing card reads, “My father has 4 Wives and 25 Kids. Due to recession under Modi Raj, we are dying from hunger. Modi is responsible for this”. 

Fact-checked:

After doing a Google reverse image search, we found that this is an old pic. Originally it reads, “We are not afraid to die oppressors. Instead of Lullabies, we heard stories of Karbala”. It was morphed to mock.

Fake news:

A picture is making rounds on social media where Nilkamal brand, manufacturer of furniture placed a dustbin having Pakistani flag and Pakistan Murdabad written on it.  

Fact-checked:

The original image dated back to 22 February 2019. As per the article published then, an unknown individual put ‘Pakistan Murdabad’ stickers on at least 10-12 dustbins at Udaipur railway station. Railway authorities removed the stickers after getting informed.
