This compact baby is capable of providing entertainment, knowledge, ordering food & cabs and a lot more. But there is something else this smartphone culture has brought into our lives. That is fake news.

Therefore, here we are busting 4 such fake news that went viral last week.

Samajwadi Party said, “Cycle par button dabana Hai, Pakistan Banana Hai”!

Fake News: Several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders shared a video that claims that Samajwadi Party organized an election rally where Pro-Pakistan slogans were raised. It is alleged that slogans like “Cycle par button dabana Hai, Pakistan Banana Hai ” were raised by SP candidates Munindra Shukla in Bithoor, Kanpur. The viral claim is false.

Busted: On social media, Munindra Shukla called this viral video edited. Shukla can also be heard saying that the viral video is misleading and accused the BJP of spreading fake news. A tweet of News24 in which a video statement of ARO (Assistant Returning Officer) appointed by the Election Commission in Bithoor Vidhan Sabha can be seen. The ARO has clarified that the claim of raising the pro-Pakistan slogan in the viral video is false. “We did not find a word like ‘Pakistan’ used in the video”, the ARO said.

Fake News: A video of a woman arguing with security guards has gone viral that claims, a Muslim woman in Maharashtra tried to block the tricolour’s hoisting and snatch the photo frame of Bharat Mata on Republic Day. In the video, a woman can be seen arguing with the crowd around her. The security guards try to let go of the photo and repeatedly urge her to engage in the conversation but the woman refuses to do so, stating that Bharat Mata’s photo should not be in a man’s hand. Later in the video, she gets violent and ends up slapping a few people around her.

Busted: The viral claim is false. The woman in the video is a Punjabi Hindu and resides in Thane city of Maharashtra. She is suffering from a mental illness and so could not bear the noise of the loudspeakers, which led to the incident.

BSP claims its victory in the upcoming UP elections, stick billboards in metro 

Fake News: A billboard of the BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) placed on a metro station is going viral on social media. In the viral image, a billboard of a girl with the logo of the Lucknow metro can be seen. In the viral billboard, it is written, “बसपा के कानूनराज से, महिलाएं सुरक्षित आज से.” People on social media claim that billboards of the upcoming BSP government have already started appearing in Lucknow Metro. The viral claim is false.

Busted: The same picture of Billboard was uploaded by the Llllline.com website. Llllline is a digital artwork website. The tunnel part in the Background of the image looks similar to the viral picture. However, no BSP advertisement was there. It appears that the viral image was created with the help of editing software.

INC inaugurated the Congress Youth wing office with Muslim rituals!

Fake News: A picture is going viral with a claim that INC (Indian National Congress) inaugurated the Congress Youth wing office in Karnataka with Muslim rituals. In the image, a group of men can be seen sitting on a chair making dua inside a room with photo frames of Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, President Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi in the background. The viral claim is false.

Busted: According to the report of The New Indian Express published on 1 February 2022, where Mohammed Haris Nalapad, Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee leader took charge of office as president of the youth wing. During the ceremony, he performed religious rituals of both Muslim and Hindu traditions at the Congress Bhavan on Race Course Road.

Most viral fake news are promoted with a communal spin and encashing the electoral advances. Therefore, do not press the share button before fact-checking it.
