Eoin Morgan hits record-breaking 148 with 17 sixes
The England captain Eoin Morgan who wasn’t even sure a day before if he will make into team scored sensational century against Afghanistan. Morgan hit 17 sixes against in his 148 runs innings of 71 balls.
At one stage he was on 28 of 25 balls and after that he unleashed most number of sixes ever by a batsman by clearing the ropes 17 times. With Captain innings, England put 397 on the board. Afghanistan was never in the chase and ended by losing the match by 150 runs.
Many records were broken during the match. Here are some of those:
-Highest number of sixes hit by an individual – Morgan- (17)
-Third biggest win in terms of run for England in the World Cup. The biggest win came in 1975 World Cup against India by 202 runs and the second big win was against East Africa by 196 runs in the same year.
-Most Sixes in an innings ever by a team in ODI – England (25)
-148 is the third highest score in the World Cup for England. Andrew Strauss 158 in 2011 and Jason Roy 153 against Bangladesh are the top two scorers.
-This is the fourth fastest century in the World Cup for any batsman. Kevin O’Brien has hit in 50, Glenn Maxwell in 51 balls and AB de Villiers hit in 52 balls.
-189 between (Eoin Morgan and Joe Root) is the biggest partnership for England in World Cups.
-Rashid Khan gave 110 runs in his 9 overs which is second highest after Australia’s Michael Lewis who gave 113 runs.
