Election 2019: How to apply for Voter ID?
Election 2019 is around the corner. Election Commission has already announced the dates Election 2019 will be held in 7 phases, starting from 11 April to 23 May. In that case, as an aware citizen, we all should cast our vote. Every vote matters. Let us shout our opinion loud. To cast the vote in the upcoming elections, one needs a Voter ID. It is also known as (Electors Photo identity card). It is issued by Election Commission of India to all the citizens eligible to vote.
The purpose of Voter ID is to serve an identity proof for voters, increase efficiency and prevent fraud during free and fair democratic elections.
What all information a Voter ID consists?
- A unique serial number
- Photograph of the cardholder
- A hologram containing respective state/ national symbol
- Name of card holder
- Father’s Name of card holder
- Card Holder’s date of birth
- The card holder’s residential address and signature of the issuing authority (Electoral Registration officer) are on the rear side of Voter ID cards.
How you can apply for a Voter ID card?
A citizen of India can apply for the Voter ID card in two ways, online and offline. Here is how you can apply.
One should visit the national voter’s service portal website which is known as NSVP.
Click relevant option to register for the new voter
The online form 6 will get open and you need to fill all the relevant information.
Additionally, upload a photo and supporting documents with reference to Voter ID status.
How to apply offline?
Applicant must visit the nearest State Election office and request for form 6.
Fill form 6 with all the necessary information such as identity proof, address proof etc. Submit the form after filling it.
After the verification of all the documents, the voter ID will be issued.
