Dhanteras 2019: What all you should buy for good luck?

Diwali week is here already. Preparations all across the nation are in full swing. The festive season brings a lot of positivity, isn’t?  The big festival of Diwali begins with Dhanteras which is also called ‘Dhanatrayodash’.  On this day, people purchase utensils and jewelry to bring good luck.  The word Dhanteras is derived from Dhan which means wealth and teras means thirteen, the day falls on the 13th lunar day of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of the calendar.  This year Dhanteras will fall on October 25, 2019.

Stories related to Dhanteras

Dhateras is one of the biggest festivals of Hindus. People celebrate it with a lot of zeal and happiness.  Just like many other Hindu festivals, there are so many stories associated with Dhanteras. There is one interesting story behind Dhanteras, for which a lot of people worship Lord Yamraj.  One story says that a horoscope of King son’s said that he will die after 4 days of marriage as he will get bitten by a snake. It is believed that on the 4th day of his marriage, his wife decides that she will not let her husband sleep to turn the fate around.  To lure the snake away, she laid out all her jewelry at the entrance.  As per belief when the god of death came in disguise in the form snake, he got blind due to a lot of jewellery. This way he wasn’t able to enter the prince’s chamber and in the morning he left the house , and bared his life.

A lot of people worship the god of death Yamraj on this day and seek his blessings. Just before Diwali people clean their house, decorate it with lights and diyas to keep all the negative energies away.
