The election promise of the Aam Aadmi Party came to reality on Thursday, when the Cabinet cleared the proposal to form mohalla sabhas in all 70 constituencies.
It took a year of coordination with experts to identify 2,972 mohalla sabhas in its bid to empower people and encourage local participation in government related problems.
Mohalla sabhas for Delhi people
The previous year, Delhi government introduced a pilot project in 11 constituencies. This year it has expanded the project to all parts of the Capital.
Before creating the mohalla sabhas each Mohalla was mapped using a Geographic Information System (GIS) with ground data.
The government has raised Rs 350 crore for the mohalla sabha as Swaraj fund, which will be distributed equally.
These local bodies will function to coordinate with different government agencies for the execution of developmental works. This will eventually help in efficient execution of social schemes and taking up local issues.
