Are Our Women Safe? When Chief of DCW Swati Maliwal gets Harassed

Chief of DCW Swati Maliwal harassed by a drunk driver; gets dragged by car

DCW Chief Swati Maliwal was recently harassed by a drunk driver in the streets of Delhi. This incident is a huge question mark on the safety of women in the Capital. When the Chairperson of a commission that is supposed to take care of women, herself is not safe, how can we expect other women to be safe? This incident along with the various incidents in the past should be a wake-up call for the authorities to do the right thing and take some deterrent actions.

“Late last night I was inspecting the situation of women’s security in Delhi. A driver of a car molested me in a drunken state and when I caught hold of him, he locked my hand in the mirror of the car and dragged me. God saved life. If the Chairperson of the Women’s Commission is not safe in Delhi, then imagine the situation.”

The incident occurred in front of the AIIMS when she was inspecting the state of women’s security in Delhi. She said that the driver had asked her to get in, and when she refused, he drove away. He came back the second time and asked her to sit inside, which is when she moved to the driver’s side window to reprimand the man, he rolled up the car’s glass window and her hand got stuck in the window, and she was dragged for 10-15 meters. The police patrol spotted her and helped to apprehend the 47-year-old driver and the car.

Many Call Incident Staged

Many people on social media are calling the incident staged or fake. A political angle has also been added to this incident where BJP is claiming that the Aam Aadmi Party staged the incident. The video is yet to be verified by the sources.
