Cyclone Fani made a landfall today morning in Odisha leaving more than 11.5 Lakh people affected. Severe Cyclone Fani which made a landfall in Puri on Odisha Coast on Friday morning is expected to stay until May 5. Notably, there is a threat of Storm Surge.
The Surge happens when sea levels rise dramatically during a storm; it sends a destructive wall of water gushing over the people and property around. The Meteorological Department of India has called it an extremely severe cyclone, it was formed in Southeast Sri Lanka seven days ago.
According to the department, Cyclone Fani, pronounced as Foni is likely to be the highest intensity storm to hit Odisha in recent years.

Cyclone Fani is expected to move towards Bengal from Odisha. The governments of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal all are on high alert. The cyclone is creating havoc in Odisha. 9 people have already died and the numbers could increase. In that case, the CM of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu assured all possible help to the neighboring city.
