Understanding Congress Manifesto for Lok Sabha Elections 2019
Congress has released its Manifesto for Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Ever since the party released the manifesto, it has become the talk of the town due to its provisions for Nyuntam Ajay Yojana. Apart from it, there are so many other things that caught everybody’s attention such as repealing Armed forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) and a separate budget for farmers.
The grand old party has come up with a tagline called, “Hum Nibhaayenge.” The manifesto was released at party headquarters on Akbar Road, New Delhi. According to BJP, Nehru is the source of all of India’s ill. In that context, Congress decided to call the manifesto document “India’s new tryst with destiny”, recalling Nehru’s famous speech. Congress addressed the manifesto as “marriage of wealth and welfare.”
How the manifesto is different from 2014?
Congress has made some big changes in the manifesto this time. This time, the party has put major thrust on the word “Promises”. Almost all sections included the word “Promises”. In the year 2014, the word had only got three mentions in the manifesto. The other keywords that Congress has smartly used in its manifesto are security, women, and law.
The Manifesto of Congress is divided into six categories:
- KAAM: Employment and Growth
- DAAM: A economy that works for all
- SHAAN: Pride in our hard and soft power
- SUSHAASAN: Good Governance through independent and accountable institutions
- SWABHIMAAN: Self –esteem for the deprived
- SAMMAN: a life of dignity for all
Will NYAY become a game changer?
One of the major themes of Congress this year is NYAY. The question is will it become a game changer? It was announced by the party last week and it aims to alleviate poverty in the country by providing a minimum basic income. Congress has also talked about employment, jobs, and unemployment. At the beginning of the year, it was reported that unemployment scenario in the country has touched an all-time high. Congress assured that if their party will come to power, they will create an ample amount of jobs.
What was missing from the manifesto this time?
Surprisingly, few words were completely omitted from the manifesto Congress such as Peace, Secular. In the year 2014, it got four mentions in the manifesto. These words did not have any mention in 2019 manifesto.
The party didn’t mention about inflation at all. Earlier, it got two mentions. The party had promised to combat inflation.
Lok Sabha Elections will begin from April 11 and India will get its new government.
