Bombay HC to decide on women’s entry to Haji Ali

Today, the Bombay High Court is set to announce its verdict on the entry of women into the inner sanctum of Haji Ali Dargah.

Earlier, in February the state government had said that unless the Dargah Board proves that the ban on women’s entry is a part of their religion with reference to Quran, women should be allowed to enter the sacred sanctum of Haji Ali Dargah.

The trust claiming that it is a sin in Islam to touch the tomb of a male saint and said that special arrangements have been made for women to offer prayer, who can enter only up to a certain point.

Besides this, Bhumata Brigade activist Trupti Desai visited Shani Shingnapur temple to offer her prayers and seek blessings on Monday, before the final verdict of the court.
