Ben Stokes sold for 14.5 crore in IPL Player Auction 2017

IPL season 10 is all set to begin from 5 April, 2017. IPL lovers are eagerly waiting for the 10th season as IPl is one of the most anticipated sports events in India. Total of 60 matches would be played including the final match, and 8 teams will compete for the IPl trophy. Today, IPL player auction is taking place in Bengaluru, and so far Ben Stokes has emerged as the star of the auction.

IPl team, Rising Pune Supergiants has forked out Rs.14.5 crore for his services- more than seven times his base price. Notably, Ben Stokes was among one of the seven marquee players with the base price of RS. 2 crore. A lot of IPL teams were trying to get him in the team including Delhi Daredevils but Pune’s 14.5 crore changed the tempo. Finally, Rising Pune Supergiants acquired him for a whopping price.

Ben Stokes performance and expectations

Ben Stokes, 25 , has played 77 T-20 matches in which he has scored 1272 runs at an average of 22.71. His innings include five fifties. He has also taken 32 wickets at 36.40 apiece. He maintained economy rate of 8.60 throughout the matches.

Interestingly, he played very well in last ODI series and and after that Yuvraj Singh had tipped Stokes to “earn millions at the auction.”

Sanjeeve Goenka, the owner of the franchise termed Stokes “the hero we need.” He said that Stokes is a complete player and he completes their squad. He further added, “we have been waiting for a player like him to join our squad.”

Notably , Ben Stokes has become second most expensive buy after Yuvraj Singh for INR RS. 16 crore in 2015.
