Art Deco Influence On Present Day Fashion And Jewelry

Art deco’s modernity, elegance and luxury is much sought after even today. Gucci’s spring-summer 2012 collection saw the major art deco influence with appliqué geometric shapes and beading. Using a similar color scheme of gold, black, green and white shows the influence of the jewelry created by the famous Cartier in the early twentieth century. While the jewelry influence could also be seen in Ralph Lauren’s capsule jewelry collection featuring nine exquisitely crafted pieces was launched in fall 2011 at the flagship store on Madison Avenue in New York City. The bold geometric pieces made in 18-karat white and rose gold with diamonds, emeralds, green agate, and black onyx representing the sleek yet distinctive simplicity of the 1930s Art Deco era. Ralph Lauren also designed Robert Redford’s suits for the movie “the Great Gatsby” in 1974 and has continued this influence in his fall 2011 collection. A number of designers have been inspired for their accessory collection by this great art movement. This winter is good time to dress like the twenties with a chromatic color palette.
