Anil Baijal becomes the new Lt. Governor of Delhi
Few days after Najeeb Jung gave resignation from his post former Union Home Secretary Anil Baijal becomes the new Lt. Governor of Delhi.
The oath was administered by Chief Justice of Delhi High Court G Rohini. Well, Anil Baijal is not a new face at all he was formally appointed as Delhi LG on Wednesday as a replacement of Najeeb Jung.
Anil Baijal is 1969-batch IAS officer, he even served as Union Home Secretary during Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
Najeeb Jung resignation came us shock for all of us
Yes, Najeeb Jung’s instant decision of resignation came us suprise for everyone.Former Delhi LG, Najeeb Jung, resigned from his position on December 22.
Still it’s not clear why he resigned but it was speculated to be a result of a constant differences between him and Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal.
Former LG, Najeeb Jung who is 65, is a former 1973 batch IAS officer and former vice-chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia University. He took charge of Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi on 9 July, 2013.
President Pranab Mukherjee accepted Najeeb Jung’s resignation on 28th of december and approved Baijal’s name as the next L-G of the National Capital Territory.
Baijal is a former bureaucrat has also been the vice-chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and had headed key public sector companies like Prasar Bharti and Indian Airlines.
70-year-old Baijal was removed as Union home secretary when the UPA government assumed power in May, 2004.
