What is Acute Encephalitis Syndrome? Know its Symptoms
Brain Fever aka Acute Encephalitis has created havoc in Bihar. Nine more children died in Bihar’s Muzaffarnagar under the outbreak of Brain Fever, taking the death toll to 83. Notably, all the victims have fallen prey to hypoglycaemia, a condition caused by a very low level of sugar and electrolyte imbalance, the doctors said. It is a deadly brain disease. All the kids experienced similar symptoms, with a sudden drop in blood sugar level which led to their untimely death.
Understanding Acute Encephalitis Syndrome
It is a neurological disorder which affects the brain and the limbic system when a specific strain of Virus or bacteria attacks the body. Recently, the virus was found in the Litchi fruit. It entered the body and attacked the immune system as well as the brain. Notably, it majorly inflames the vessels in the brain, it is also known as brain fever.
How does it spread?
Just like other viral stains, it spreads due to the contaminated surfaces. It can spread through contaminated water. Notably, once it infects the patient, it can infect others through their secretions and Saliva.
Doctors are saying it’s hard to identify the symptoms of the disease as it rapidly spreads, attacking important cells in the brain. Still, here are a few common symptoms of the disease are:

- Fever Nausea, and vomiting
- Fatigue, Confusion
- Back Pain
- Hearing Loss
