World moving towards a new era in Astronomy
As LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) confirms the detection of gravitational waves, it reestablished the Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity (GTR) and his prognosy on the existence of gravitational waves, which he gave 101 years back and that has proved him a genius yet again.
What are gravitational waves notionally?
Gravitational waves are concentric ripples that squeeze and stretch the fabric of space-time. They are caused by the movement of mass. Analogous to water ripples formed, when a stone strikes the surface of water.
Einstein predicted the existence of gravitational waves as a part of his equation of GTR. Unlike electromagnetic waves gravitational waves can see far back in time and space unhampered.
“What’s going to come now is that we are going to hear more things and no doubt we will hear things we expected to hear. But we will also hear thing that we never expected.” says David Reitze LIGO’S Executive Director.
Electromagnetic waves led to the invention of microwaves, radio ecetra .And now the gravitational waves leave the world curious of how will it affect the technology and transit the world?
