Over 30% Covaxin takers suffered from health issues after 1 year: Report
Researchers at BHU found that over one-third of recipients of Bharat Biotech’s anti-Covid vaccination, Covaxin, reported “adverse events of special interest,” or AESI, in a study looking at the long-term consequences of the vaccine.
Almost one-third of the 926 individuals who underwent the study’s examination reported having an AESI, with viral upper respiratory tract infections being the most frequent symptom. In one percent of cases, serious AESI including stroke and Guillain-Barre syndrome were documented.
The Covaxin vaccine was administered to 291 adults and 635 adolescents between January 2022 and August 2023 for this trial. Skin and subcutaneous problems, general disorders, and nervous system abnormalities were among the common AESI identified in teenagers. Disorders of the neurological system, musculoskeletal system, and overall health were common in adults.

The study discovered that the odds of persistent AESIs were, respectively, 1.6, 2, 2.7, and 3.2 times greater in females, teenagers with pre-vaccination Covid-19, persons with underlying medical disorders, and those who contracted typhoid after immunization. The study also found that persons with pre-existing medical issues were more than twice as likely to have AESIs and chronic AESIs.
