Waheeda Rahman: At 79, she is still the epitome of elegance and grace
One of the classic beauties Waheeda Rehman has turned a year older today. The veteran actress is still the epitome of grace and elegance. She is still active on screen and keeps on making appearances in the social circuit of Bollywood. She was born on February 3, 1938 in Chengalputtu which is now Tamil Nadu.
Facts about her childhood
Although she was born in Tamil Nadu, but her family is originally from Andhra Pradesh. Waheedaji and her younger sister learnt Bharatnatyam at an early age in Chennai. She is known for her critically acclaimed films like Pyaasa, Guide and Kagaz Ke Phool. She wanted to become a doctor but due to financial crisis, she wasn’t able to pursue her dream.

She started her career in the year 1955. Her first film was Jayasimha which came in year 1955 followed by Rojulu Marayi. It was a success party of Rojulu Marayi where she met Guru Dutt, who took her to Bollywood. And then, both of them went on to do some remarkable films together. Waheedaji and Guru Dutt went on to do Pyaasa, Biwi ka Gulam, Kagaz ke phool and Chaudhvi Ka Chand and all of them were the major hits. She continued to be the leading lady of Bollywood right upto early 70’s.
Awards and Applause
Waheeda Rehman won National Award for her performance in Resham and Shree. She has won the award for her outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema. The timeless beauty has all awards including Padmashree and Padma Bhushan in her kitty.
Her Personal Life
According to reports, Waheedaji and Guru Dutt shared a warm equation with each other and they were in a relationship which didn’t work out. The actress has never talked about her alleged affair. Guru Dutt died in the year 1963, but the actress always chose to keep mum on her equation with him. She got married in year 1974 to Kamaljit and moved to Banglore.
