A message was recorded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Kohli also mentioned that the announcement of the awards on the eve of India 68th Republic Day made it even more special. The Indian captain later posted the message on his twitter account as well.
Heartiest congratulations Kohli! We all know that Virat Kohli is indeed deserving for the award. But unfortunately, the joy was short-lived as India was beaten comprehensively by England in the first T20 International at Kanpur, which was the Kohli’s first match in charge as India’s captain in cricket’s shortest format. This time Kohli himself opened the innings and scored 29 runs.
Virat Kohli and Sakshi Malik are honoured with Padma Shri
Not only Indian captain Virat Kohli was honoured with prestigious award. Another sports personality and Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik also featured in the list of Padma awardees for 2017.
Other sports personalities on the list include the Indian hockey captain PR Sreejesh, Paralympic gold medallist Thangavellu Mariyappan, gymnast Dipa Karmakar and discus thrower Vikas Gowda. We too would like to congratulate all those who were honoured with Padma Shri and we hope these sports people always do well in their respective fields.
