Vice President Election will take place on August 5
According to reports, the new president of India will be elected on August 5, 2017 and the results will be declared on same day. Notably, the term of current vice president Hamid Ansari will expire on August 10. His successor will be chosen by all national law –makers, who add upto 790 parliamentarians. The election will be held in a secret ballot.
The Chief Election commissioner Nasim Zaidi said notification for the election will be issued on July 4, and the nominations for the same can be submitted by July 18.
Notably, on July 17, national and state legislators will vote for the new President of India. The government’s candidate is Ram Nath Kovind and opposition has nominated former Lok Sabha Speaker Mira Kumari for the post.
Meanwhile, EC has also announced the date of election to the Rajya Sabha seat from Goa.
The results of the presidential elections will be declared on July 20, three days after the voting. The BJP, with its allies and support of regional parties is expected to collect more than 60 percent of the vote.
