Uttarakhand’s first synthetic poly grass hockey ground has been set up in the state’s capital Dehradun.
The artificial ground has been set up at Maharana Pratap Sports College, which will be inaugurated on Tuesday by Chief Minister Harish Rawat.
Hockey players of the Uttarakhand region are gping to be benefited from the new ground as they face problems on national level competitions because they practise on plane grass but competitions are done on artificial turf poly grass.
The principal of Maharana Pratap College, Rajesh said ,”It is a matter of pride that state’s first synthetic turf hockey ground has come up at his college. Now various tournaments and hockey camps can be organised in Uttarakhand as synthetic turf was must for organizing such events.”
The estimated cost of ground Rs. 65 crore. It took 1 year to complete the work. Synthetic turf is a high class hockey pitch and it meets international standards.
On Tuesday after the inauguration ceremony a showcase match would be played between Uttarakhand police and state hockey team.
State is going to organise its first national hockey match in year 2018. SK Sarki, the District Sports Officer (DSO) of Dehradhun told that he himself has been a hockey player and turf ground is a great exposure for the young hockey talents.
From the very young age hockey player should learn hockey on turf ground so that he becomes habitual of it as all national and internation hockey matches are played on turf grasses only.
