New RBI Governor Urjit Patel has assumed office. He is the 24th Governor of Reserve Bank of India, succeeding Raghuram Rajan whose three year ridden controversy tenure ended yesterday.
According to a statement he assumed office on September 4 2016. Before this he was serving as the Deputy Governor of RBI since January 2013.
Notably, he was reappointed as deputy governor on January 11, 2016 , after he completed his three term in the office. He had also served IMF. So from now onwards he is the new governor of RBI. Urjit Patel has a PhD in economics from Yale University, an M Phil from University of Oxford and a BSc from University of London.
