As the month of March approaches the adrenaline starts gushing in the blood streams of all parents. Reason- examination time, ‘what will s/he score’, ‘will s/he do better this time,’ ‘he should score more than so and so ‘and the thoughts just simply go on. These thoughts play merry hell with not only you but also the poor child who is already in another hot soup of subjects, projects and exams.
MARKS, the ultimate goal, the ultimate aim, How important are these? Why are they important? For the child’s future, for his career, for his confidence or are they important for your confidence, your relatives, your neighbors or let’s say your social status.
‘Honesty is the best policy’. This is what we have always taught them. Let’s be honest to ourselves. Are we trying to live our dreams through our children? Are we turning a blind eye to their dreams for our dreams?
The race to the top makes us forget that every sprinter does not make it to the finishing line first. Come on! Your child is an individual. He has your genes but he has his own brain, he has your blood but he has his own mind. Let his mind bloom, let him bloom. He has his dreams, he has his ambitions. Let his dreams be his own.
Let him soar. Be his guide, be his confidant. Be by his side and help him fly.
You may have or may not have achieved your dreams but let him. Come March, we are going to discuss all this and much more. Feel free to send in your questions. And here are the answers for last week’s queries:
Hi! I am Nupoor and I am in class 10th I wanted to ask that why do teachers give us home work when we can complete our work in school, why carry work for home too? It’s like an added burden.
I know Nupur, homework seems to be a burden but have you heard of the old saying ‘Practice makes a man perfect.’ Well that still holds true. There are things which have to be done again and again. If you are able to manage your time, make a time schedule for yourself . You will never find it to be a burden.
I am Raunak and I am in class 9th, I wanted to ask what should I do because my parents are always after me for being on the phone, which I like but they feel don’t. It is really irritating.
Raunak, child I know the mobile is your best friend. You like to be on it that’s how you keep in touch with the latest in your friends circle and mummy and daddy just don’t seem to understand. This is so because probably you are not managing your time properly. If you are able to maintain a proper balance between your studies and your friends it may not be that big a problem.
Hi, I am Rahul, 17. I often get in argument with my parents regarding outings with friends. I don’t understand why they have problem with this? I can go out with my friends and can come back at reasonable hours. I am responsible enough to take care of myself. Why do they even send me to school, why don’t they keep me with themselves every time at home in front of their eyes?
First, my dear let me tell you one thing, your parents love you and are just concerned about you. With the present scenario vis-à-vis the crime rate, they worry about the friends you have, the places you go out for outings.
You have to assure them and build their trust and confidence by following few simple steps,
Give them the mobile numbers of your friends.
Tell them about the place /venue of your outings. Yes, even if it is just hanging out, they should know about it.
Tell them what time you would be back and make sure you stick to it. (V.IMPORTANT).
Last but not the least do not make this a frequent practice because remember you have to maintain a balance between your studies and your outings and not to forget your family.
Hi, I am Nikita, 10th class student. I really don’t understand the concept of morning assemblies. I mean why they call up every student early morning in hot sun. It is such a problem for everyone and even students faint during assemblies. Schools should really abolish the concept of assemblies.
Hi Nikita… why do we have assemblies, well, that is one time when all the students stand together and offer a short prayer to God. A few good thoughts are shared. You get to hear a few news headlines (which we do not really hear or read otherwise) sometimes few prizes are given out. It is basically an interactive platform where you get to know a little about everyone in the school. And it is aimed at giving an active start to the day.
Yes, students do faint but that my dear is not because of the hot sun. Had it been so, many would have fainted in the P.T period. Students faint because most of you do not like to eat in the morning. Breakfast should never be skipped because it strengthens the body’s immune system thus more stamina.
