Konark Dance Festival is organized every year at the Konark sun temple, Orissa.
The Konark Temple was built in the 13th century on the beach of Chandrabagha. The temple has Natyamandir or the ‘dancing hall’ is a remarkable architectural wonder.
The Natyamandir is decorated with beautiful sculptures of Odissi dancers.
There are sculptures of musicians playing different musical instruments such as drums, cymbals, etc. the carvings depict an array of human emotions ranging from love to anger.
The Konark Dance Festival is annually organized from 19th February to 23rd February.
The dancers come from all parts of the country to perform in the open-air auditorium. The festival is a lavish treat for the audiences.
‘The sound of ghungroo, flute and pakhauj gets you in a festive mood. Also, there is a crafts mela where you can find a variety of handicrafts and tasty cuisines. Konark Dance Festival is jointly organised by Orissa Tourism and Odissi Research Centre.’
The festival gives an opportunity to enjoy music and dance amidst pristine heritage.
