Lamborghini is an Italian car brand famous for its extraordinary and luxurious sports cars. In Italian, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. means ‘listen’.
The headquarters of brand Lamborghini is situated at in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy. Around 1,711 automobiles were manufactured in 2011.
In 1963 the Italian magnate Ferruccio Lamborghini laid the foundation of Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini S.p.A.
The underlying motive was to create a luxury car to compete with already established brand Ferrari.
In 1960 Lamborghini first model was officially released and became popular because of its comfort, power and refinement.
In 1966, Lamborghini gained worldwide accolades for establishing mid-engine rear wheel drive as the sole ‘standard layout high-performance cars of the era’ through its Miura sports coupé.
Since 1973 Lamborghini’s ownership changed almost three times- first in 1987 American Chrysler Corporation took control of Lamborghini and later in 1994 sold it to ‘sold it to Malaysian investment group Mycom Setdco and Indonesian group V’Power Corporation’ and in 1998 V’Power and Mycom Setdco sold it to Volswagen Group and finally Lamborghini became under the control of Audi division.
Currently Lamborghini manufactures V12-powered Aventador and Huracan is due to be launched in 2014. Huracan will be the replacement for its V-10 powered Gallardo.
