40 E-cycles and 10 E-scooters launched under the #ESLRidesGreen campaign

In line with its dedication to sustainability and its plan to entirely transition to Electric Vehicles (EV) by 2025, ESL Steel Limited, the Vedanta Group Business and a major national steel player, unveiled 40 E-cycles and 10 E-scooters under its #ESLRidesGreen initiative in association with EVeez, an electric vehicle subscription site. Inaugurated by ESL Steel CEO Pankaj Malhan on Republic Day, the EVs will be used within the plant premises by ESL employees.

Located in the village of Siyaljori in the district of Bokaro, Jharkhand, ESL is a major producer of steel products. It has a greenfield integrated steel plant of 1,5 million tons per year (MTPA) that manufactures pig iron, billet, TMT bars, wire rods and ductile iron pipes. The plant operates in compliance with the sustainability requirements laid down, thus putting together globally recognised knowledge and solutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Pankaj Malhan, CEO of ESL Steel Limited, said, “It is highly fulfilling to step closer to our target of completely connecting EV by 2025. With this, ESL has become the first organization in the Vedanta Community to introduce hybrid bicycles and electric scooters for its workers in the plant premises. As we brace for the future, I cannot thank EVeez enough for their encouragement and help. On Republic Day, I hope we inspire others to reduce carbon footprint so that India can remain as beautiful as it always was.”

With allocated connections to 14 places inside the service, the facility can be conveniently used with the aid of a smartphone app. Employees will search the QR code and login with their employee ID to use GPS-enabled EVs. The mobility of these vehicles outside the geo-thermal zone of the plant is limited and can be controlled. Other than that, the cars are self-contained with a top speed limit of 20 km per hour.

Abhishek Dwivedi, Co-Founder and COO of EVeezadded, “Electrical Mobility is the future, and the sooner we drive towards it, the better for us as a country. We ensure that the change from fossil fuel to electricity is safe and affordable. Initiatives such as these by ESL Steel Ltd. are a huge boost to the environment, and I believe that this is a strong step towards sustainable human growth. I wish you all the best and hope to support you in future as well.
