The 26th Shillong Station Garden Competition


The 26th Shillong Station Garden Competition and Flower Show 2015 concluded its grand finale today. It was a weeklong competition held in three phases with flower arrangements display held from March 24. The competition has its rich history in Shillong since its commencement in the year 1989.

The competition was held in three categories: gardens, potted plants and flower arrangements. The competition, generated overwhelming response from not just the Officers and their families. The event saw also various departments and institution who participated. It was a moment of photographers delight. The competition was judged by eminent horticulturist Mrs. Singhania, Mrs A. Rapshik, Mrs. Yadav and Mrs. A. Ganguly. The members of Shillong Agri- Horticultural Society also help with the assistance, direction, guidance and judging in the various categories.

The garden competition started on March 24 and continued till March 30, with judging of the gardens of various army units. There were three sets of judges who visited the various gardens of regimental officer’s messes, offices, guest rooms, holiday homes and institutes, near Shillong.

People were shown the winners of the various garden of the various officers bungalow, offices, institues adn holiday homes

The potted plant competition was held on March 31 were approximately four hundred potted plant entries under seventeen different categories were judged at Rhino Training Complex. Fifteen flower arrangement competitions in fresh, dry and Ikebana style arrangements with imaginative presentations were on display.

Various acrobatic skills were on display

The pinnacle of the event was the grand ceremony held at the Rhino Training Complex, Shillong, Meghalaya. The chief guest was Lt General SP Nawathe, GOC 101 Area accompanied by President of Army Wives Welfare Association,AWWA by Mrs. Nawathe. The GTC grounds were lit with the children’s happiness who witnessed not just the various methodical arrangements. It was the eagerness to witness a number of cultural dances, gymnastics, body building display and martial arts display by Assam Regimental Centre and 58 Grokha Training Centre which were the highlight of the event, which was followed by prize distribution of the winners and band display by the pipe bands.
