History: As many will know, the World Hand Hygiene Day was announced by the WHO in 2005 as the “Clean Care Is Safer Care“, projected. It aimed at cutting the rate of healthcare associated infections by improving hand hygiene techniques among staff. Back in 2009, the WHO declared May 5 to be World Hand Hygiene Day with it being situated close to the birthday of a celebrated physician and handwashing researcher, Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis.

Consequence: Hand hygiene is the most significant thing in preventive and control infection. Through proper handwashing, the spread of disease-causing microorganisms and viruses, such as coronavirus, can be notably abated. We can prevent diseases and save lives if we caring about our hand hygiene together with other people. The fewer people get the illness, the less pressure on healthcare systems.

Theme for 2024: “Clean Hands for All” is the theme for the  World Hand Hygiene Day 2024. The theme highlights the fact that providing equitable access means providing hygiene facilities and education to all. It stresses the need for the provision of the infrastructure of hygiene that will enable the social classes and the communities whose social condition do not allow the good hygiene practices to protect themselves from the epidemics.
