Russia is taking it’s role in Syria seriously. Partially this could be to show it’s relevance in the modern global scenario, and partilly could be to maintain it’s say in the oil rich Middle East region.
Whatever the reason, Russia has increased it’s fleet of bombers to 69 in Syria, making it a significant player there.
Russia is claiming to have fired 18 cruise missles on Friday itself, which destroyed targets in Raqqa, Alepp and Idlib regions of Syria, claimed to be ISIS targets.
This Russian claim has been contradicted by USA, and according to Colonel Ryder of the US Central Command, “ the majority of the Russian air strikes are still against moderate (read anti Assad) Syrian opposition forces, which is clearly concerning and those strikes are in support of the Syrian regime.”
