Robot Reporter finally gets its first news article published
Yes, you heard it right a Robot Reporter finally marked its debut in a Chinese Daily yesterday. The robot wrote a 300 characters- long article in just a second, according to reports.
The article was published in Gunagzhou – based Southern Metropolis Daily. The article focused on the Spring Festival travel rush. As per reports, its author, Xiao Nan took only a second to finish the writing piece. The robot reporter is capable of writing both short and long stories, according to Wan Xiaojun, a professor at Peking University who leads the team in studying and developing such robots.
According to him, Xiao Nan has a stronger data analysis capacity and is quicker at writing, when compared to other staff reporters.
Notably, the robots will not completely replace reporters but they will be able to act as a supplement, helping newspapers and related media as well as reporters and editors.
So will the Robot Reporter will replace Staff Reporter?
Experiments with Robot Reporter was creating unease among the staff reporters as they might lose their jobs in long run. But according to Wan Xiaojun, intelligent robots will not be able to replace staff reporters completely (He was quoted saying in China Daily). Currently, robots are unable to face-to face interviews, cannot answer to follow up questions and do not have the ability to select news angle from an interview or conversation.
