The dry and exhausted earth is satiated by heavenly downpour from the sky above. Rain is like nourishment for the earth and is called the ‘water of life’.
Rain drops symbolizes heavenly tears and the accompanying lightening is considered as heavenly anger. Rain also symbolizes tears, sorrow, renewal, cleansing, anger, forgiveness, etc.
Rain is life giving. Everything around us is enveloped in greenery and becomes eye-soothing. Plants, lakes, rivers, wells, etc. become full of water. Water as we know is the fundamental basis of life.
Forms and Benefits of Rain:
Rain may differ in forms such as drizzle, shower, etc. Drizzle is defined as small droplets or light rain while shower is termed as the rain for short span of time. Sudden heavy rainfall is called the cloudburst or downpour. It may result in sudden flood and calamity. “Sudden downpour with bigger drops is called cats and dogs rain.”
Rain gives fresh water and makes the rivers to flow, fills lakes and ponds and keeps animals and plants alive. No rain, too much or too little rain can lead to deleterious effects on the life on animals and plants. Drought and famine is the outcome or too little or no rain while excessive rain causes flood and landslides.
Besides beautifying nature rain water has some important economic benefits.
Rain is the most important source of water. In India, economy is directly linked with water and rain. Around 75 percent of rainfall occurs during the four months of June, July, August and September. The production of crops depends largely upon the distribution and amount of rainfall. Moreover the generation of hydroelectric power is also dependent upon rain water.
