Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday made a huge move by approving PAVA shells to control violent crowds. These shells are “a chilli-based non-lethal munition” that can make the target immobile for several minutes.
These shells will be replacing the pellet guns, which have known to cause a lot of harm, injury and blindness to various protesters. The use of these pellet guns for the disturbances in Kashmir had seen a lot of criticisms.
The shells were tested for over a year at the Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, a Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) laboratory in Lucknow.
