21st May marks the death anniversary of former Prime Minister of India-Rajiv Gandhi.
The nation pays solemn homage to the Rajiv Gandhi who was brutally assassinated by a suicide bomber on 21st May about 21 years ago.
At the age of 40 years, Rajiv became the sixth and the youngest Prime Minister of India. He took the office after the assassination of Indira Gandhi on 31st October 1984.
It was on 21st May 1991 at Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu during an election campaign, that Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated.
At the site of blast, the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial was constructed.
“Seven pillars, each featuring a human value surrounds the site of the blast, at the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial in Sriperumbudur.”
Popularly called the “Path of Light”, this was the path that Gandhi took before being assassinated.
