On May 2, 2013 a man named Ankur Panwar had thrown acid on the face of Preeti Rathi, a girl from Delhi who had come to Mumbai to work as a nurse with the Indian Navy. This incident had taken place at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus.
The acid attack had cause failure of Preeti’s organs and she died a month later. Today, almost three years later a special women’s court convicted the 25-year-old man for Preeti’s murder. The quantum of sentence will be given on September 7 (Wednesday).
The reason for the attack was never clear as there were conflicting reports. Some claim that Panwar attacked Preeti because she refused to marry him and some say that it was because he was jealous of her.
