Poonam Azad all set to rally for AAP in Punjab
Poonam Azad, the former BJP leader has joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday, is all set to rally for the party in Punjab and this has happened ahead of the assembly polls. According to reports, the move is to garner support of the migrant Poorvanchali electorate in Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana.
Sanjay Singh, senior AAP leader has made this announcement that a position of responsibility will be worked out for Azad soon and that she is all set to play a key role in drawing the Poorvanchali votebank in Punjab.
“This is a very emotional moment for me. We actually come from a Congress family. But my husband and I gave the BJP 25 years of our lives. I am happy to now be associated with the AAP today. There are so many things I want to say, but might not find the right words. One always leaves a party with a heavy heart. I see a future for the youth in AAP,” Azad told reporters Sunday.
I want to be a part of AAP: Poonam Azad
Poonam Azad has also met the party supremo Arvind Kejriwal earlier in the day, who welcomed her into the party.
“I want to further congratulate Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia on creating history by getting 67 out of 70 seats in the assembly. I want to be a part of this. I had to quit the BJP party because of Arun Jaitley; he kept denying me an opportunity to further contest electoral polls. He said something in front of us and did something else behind our backs. My husband, Kirti Azad, has been fighting a battle against corruption. Now Modi ji is talking of corruption, but when my husband raised his voice he was suspended. This is double standards,” Azad added.
“As for the demonetisation move, I do not agree with the BJP. It has hit women the worst… What has happened is somewhere unfair to the common man.”
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who was present at the induction, said that Poonam Azad has been ‘working for issues of the aam aadmi’.
