On Thursday, a penalty notice of RS. 5 crores were given to Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh by National Green Tribunal, for non implementation of rules related to poly bags.
If the government fails to notify the ban in 10 days, the fine will be imposed. NGT issued orders to implement the ban more than a year ago.
Tribunal has set a deadline for notifying the n ban on sale, distribution, use of poly bags and manufacturing, which is currently pending before the cabinet.
NGT also expressed displeasure this year, “On slow pace at which Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh proceeded with compliance of directions contained in the November 11, 2013, judgement.”
On 24 December, the bench will hear the matter again. “We expect the state will take necessary steps for issuing on or before 22 December.”
From January 1, 2016 a ban will come into effect, informed by Chattisgarh government. The government had not implemented the order in letter and spirit.
