Free Smartphone with free mobile data is the new year gift of PM Modi
Post implementing Demonetization, BJP has been trying to reassure the citizens of its benefits. But seems like none is working, so in order to distract or rather say impress the Indians, NaMo government has yet again come up a very enticing scheme. PM Narendra Modi has a new year gift for the people.
Apparently, there were news regarding PM Modi planning to surprise the Indians with a new scheme as a New Year present.
Rumor has it that the surprise consists of 70 lakh smartphones being distributed by the government for free.
Finance and Telecom ministries are always working on the data to facilitate the scheme.
The announcement regarding the same is expected to be made during the presentation of annual budget in February. The scheme will specifically target the rural population and urban poor.
Ever since the announcement of Demonetization, the central government has been emphasizing on the usage of digital money.
During all such attempts, it has been brought to government’s attention many times that country’s poor cannot afford smartphones.
The funds for ‘Modi’s Happy New Year offer’ are more likely to come from the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF).
All telecom companies contribute 5% of their revenue to fund in order to connect with the people better via Digital world.
Out of the 66,000 crore rupees collected by USOF from 2002-2014, only 25,000 crores were effectively utilized.
Without doubt, the offer will promote government’s yet another motto of making Digital India.
Distribution of smartphones could be considered a smart move by Modi government to capture that strata of the economy which was unhappy about the government’s decision of scrapping old 500 and 1000 Rs currency notes from the markets.
The smartphones to be distributed are not yet specified but as per the current trends, Reliance Jio has fair chance of being the lucky one.
