Prime Minister Narendra Modi has told BJP members in the Rajya Sabha that they need to do more, in order to expand the reach of the party among the new social groups, and this will further raise consciousness about the achievements of the NDA government.
PM was addressing a meeting called by the BJP president Amit Shah to set out the parameters, which would judge the performance of the party’s Rajya Sabha MPs.

The MPs were then asked by the party chief to adopt atleast one Lok Sabha seat each where the BJP had lost the last polls and also nurse it to ensure the victory of BJP party candidates in the next general elections. “They have to work, campaign as if they are currently the Lok Sabha members from there. They are bound to take up party programmes and also various developmental schemes like members of the Lower House. They should make up for the party not having its MP from there,” Mr. Shah said.
According to Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Law Minister who had briefed the media about the closed door meeting, said that BJP had set a precedent in sending a young crop of MPs to the House of Elders and that it should be further reflected in the demonstration of renewed vigour and energy.
“The PM in the meeting has also encouraged the Rajya Sabha members to further raise issues pertaining to the States where they have got elected from, and also to strive to reach out to the various sections of society in those States and connect them to the party,” said Mr. Prasad.
