Pakistan sink to the bottom
The pool B match of the ICC Cricket World Cup was an important encounter between 2 teams lying at the bottom of the points table, Pakistan and West Indies. It was of even greater importance for West Indies to win this one since they had lost to a weaker and relatively new team in International cricket, Ireland.
Ireland is known to cause upsets in the world cup. You may recall the 2007 World Cup where they beat Pakistan to knock them out of the World Cup in the group stage.

Coming to the match, West Indies were put into bat. They lost Gayle early in the match and a few overs later Dwayne Smith was caught at slips. Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo steadied the innings with a partnership of 75 runs before Marlon Samuels departed. There on there was no stopping the scoreline as West Indies piled up a massive 110 runs in the last 10 overs and ended their innings at 310/6. It was truly a team effort by West Indies as no one scored big yet they managed to score above 300. The highest score being that of 51 by Ramdin.

Pakistan went of to a flying start. The wickets kept flying away everywhere. They were 4 down for a run. Even Misbah couldn’t save the day for Pakistan as he fell for 7 playing a loose shot. Maqsood and Akmal were the saving grace for the Pakistanis as they looked good with the bat and scored a half century each. Pakistan bundled out for 160 runs and suffered a whopping 150 runs defeat.

Andre Russell was declared the Man of the Match for his all round performance. He made a quick fire 42 and took 3 wickets with the ball.
With this loss, Pakistan’s World cup hopes look slim, and losing out again in the group stages doesn’t look unrealistic anymore. They need to win all their left matches to get a berth in the Quarter Finals. They face Zimbabwe in their next match to be played on 1st of March.
