Women constitute a large proportion of population on planet earth still one in three are beaten and raped in their lifetime. Violence against women is as important a topic as AIDS, poverty or global warming.
This Valentine Day people throughout the world are protesting against sexual violence against women.
One Billion Rising Campaign aims to shatter and break the silence against the crimes and violence suffered by women. let us speak unanimously against the sexual violence in all its possible forms.
It is imperative to realize that silence is one of the worst enemies of justice. The weapons are numerous such as ‘shame can gag a young man or woman, fear can seal the lips of a child and family honor becomes an accomplice in the crime.
We are shaken to hear of rapes and the brutality of the situation but have we ever realized that rape is just the tip of an iceberg. We discuss such incidents at the dinner table and debate at the night television. We simply opt not to speak of the long repercussions and vastness lurking beneath, ‘where the stranglehold of silence reigns supreme.’
On the 15th anniversary of the Valentine Day, women from all quarters of the world have come together in unison to raise their voices against sexual violence meted out to them.
So, women! Walk out in open, rise up and demand to end this violence that sabotages you not only physically but emotionally, psychologically, socially and culturally. Show your strength to the world and make your presence felt and realized.
‘ONE BILLION RISING will move the earth, activating women and men across every country. V-Day wants the world to see our collective strength, our numbers, and our solidarity across borders.’
ONE BILLION RISING is a Global Revolution:
‘A global strike
An invitation to dance
A call to men and women to refuse to participate in the status quo until rape and rape culture ends
An act of solidarity, demonstrating to women the commonality of their struggles and their power in numbers
A refusal to accept violence against women and girls as a given
A new time and a new way of being’
